"Early school leaving (ESL) is the result of a mix of individual, educational and socioeconomic factors. Different triggering effects make ESL a complex multisector phenomenon: school failure (disengagement, low achievements, transition between schools and different school levels), pull effects from labour market, social and family situation. ESL differs from country to country and from region to region but there are some recurrent features. Generally, children from vulnerable groups (low education, socially disadvantage backgrounds, migrant origin, disabled, etc.) are more likely than others to leave the school system early. Boys are more affected than girls.(...)"
